THIS WEEK:

READ ACROSS AMERICA - This week students will participate in a variety of activities to promote literacy as part of the Read Across America celebration. We are also hosting a new sock donation drive to help families in need.   New socks can be dropped off in the main office all week long.   Please see the attached fliers for more information.

Monday: Mixed Up Monday Wear mixed up clothing (backwards, inside out, or just dress silly/wacky)

Tuesday: Pajama Day (Books & Blankets) Wear your pajamas and bring a blanket to read with your parents!  From 8:15 - 8:45 am, we just ask that you take home your blanket following the reading with your student.

***Participating families members do not need to be an approved LAUSD volunteer.  This event is only for Welby Way students, parents/guardians, or adult family members.  Younger siblings and non Welby Way students are not permitted.  Thank you for your understanding.

Wednesday: Read My Shirt Day Wear an inspirational shirt for others to read!

Thursday: Show Your Socks Day Wear fun, silly, or mismatched socks!  Bring a new pair or socks or two to help support families in need.

Friday: Creative Hair Day Wear a fun or silly hair style!

2nd Grade OLSAT Testing - On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, our 2nd grade students will be taking their OLSAT test with make up testing on Friday.  There will be no other days offered for our 2nd graders to test so your child's attendance on these days is extremely important.  This test is meant as a way to determine gifted characteristics or possibly have your child qualify as gifted under high achievement.   Please be sure your child is in bed on time the night before, has a healthy breakfast that morning, and present on both days.

5th Grade is Off to Pali Camp - This Wednesday our 5th graders are off to Pali Camp.   I am hoping you have reviewed the email sent this weekend regarding clothing and packing preparation.  Please know that students are NOT ALLOWED to bring any kind of medication including "over the counter" or cough drops without the completed LAUSD medication form with your doctor and our nurse's approval.  Also, please be sure that your children are packed and prepared for the cold weather with the appropriate shoes (waterproof, gloves, hats, and clothing).  The child will have a blast.  If your child is not attending camp, they are still required to come to school all 3 days.

Next Week:

Parent Conferences: Next week we will have our spring Parent Conferences for all magnet students and selected charter students.   WIth this, there will be 12:35 pm dismissal on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Monday and Tuesday will be regular dismissal.

Spring Photos: Next Wednesday, 5th grade will have their spring photos, panorama photos, and culmination photos due to their walk to Hale Middle School on Thursday.  All other grade levels photos will be emailed out this upcoming week.

I hope you all have a wonderful remainder of the weekend and evening.   I truly thank you for your partnership and the gift of your child.  This is all for now.
