Latest News from Principal DaCorsi
Good evening Welby Way families,
I hope you are all having a lovely Memorial Day weekend as we pay respect and honor those who have served our country. As a reminder there will be no school tomorrow, May 30th and school will resume on Tuesday with regular Tuesday 1:30 pm dismissal as we begin another super busy week with 9 days left of school.
Odyssey of the Mind: Welby Way has returned from the Worlds Competition for Odyssey of the Mind at Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan today. Our remaining two teams did an amazing job demonstrating their confidence, bravery, critical thinking skills, and incredible hard work as they presented their tasks. With the support of their coaches and families, they placed 15th and 20th out of 50 teams from around the world. I am so very proud of all students who started this process from the beginning and put in their all. What a wonderful learning and memorable experience this has been.
Spring Sing: Thank you to Ms. Mendez, our Welby Way music teacher, classrooms teachers, and our TK, Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students who did a beautiful job at the Spring Sing. The practice and hard work paid off as it was a beautiful show for all.
This Week:
Cereal Drive: One of our supportive Welby Way 8th grade alumni students is giving back to the community by partnering with the West Valley Pantry and Cereal4All's mission to fight hunger around America's breakfast tables and help the millions that currently live in food-insecure homes. This week students can bring unopened boxes of cereal to the main office or library to donate to help this cause. There will be a box placed in each location to collect the donations. In turn Cereal4All will provide milk, bowls, and spoons for the top-donating classroom to have a cereal party prior to the last day of school. Your support and donation is greatly appreciated as we work together to help those in need.
Field Trips: This Tuesday 3rd grade magnet will be off to Petty Ranch in Ventura for their rescheduled field trip due to our rainy school year. Also on Wednesday, room 33 & 38 will be going to Leonis Abode for their rescheduled field trip.
Classroom Plays: We have several classrooms with class plays this week. Parents may enter through the front office to check in. No younger child/siblings are permit for the performances. I thank you for your understanding with this.

Friday: On Friday, our 4th graders will be participating in their exciting Gold Rush Day. All LAUSD approved volunteers will need to check in at the main office to participate.
Saturday: Come join in the fun with the Region North Kindness Run/Walk at Pierce College from 8:00 am - 12:30 pm.
