News from Principal DaCorsi

Good evening Welby Way families,

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend. There are a few congratulations in order from this weekend. Our very own 3rd grade student, Jolie Kanama read a poem at the Region North African American Student Summit on Saturday.  Her confidence and pose truly shined through as she read in front of an auditorium full of people. I also want to congratulate our Odyssey of the Mind teams who completed at the regional level on Saturday in Arcadia. With their creativity and the guidance of their coaches, all teams did an amazing job as demonstrating their hard work. I am honored to say that 3 of our 4 teams will be moving onto the state level competition on March 16th at El Mereno High School.

Music Teacher/Chorus - With sadness I am sharing that our new music teacher, Ms. P will no longer be at Welby Way as of this Friday due to personal reasons.  With this, we will longer have after-school chorus for 4th and 5th grade or weekly music program for all students.  We are extremely fortunate to continue with our one day a week music teacher, Mr. Lake who is provided via the district.  In the last several months, he has worked with TK - 1st up until now.  If a parent or anyone knows of a wonderful person with a vocal background who would like to volunteer or interview to support our music program, please have them reach out to me as soon as possible.  Thank you!

THIS WEEK:Used Book Donation - This week our used book donation drive has been extended one more week.  Students are able to drop off lightly used children's book to the main office or library up until Friday of this week.

  • February Fire Drill - On Monday in the afternoon we will have our February fire drill.   This is a perfect time to review your at home emergency procedures along with discuss with your children what they have learned about school emergency procedures in the event of an emergency.
  • Vacation to Mars - On Wednesday evening, Mrs. Silverstein and Mrs. Blaine's classes will be performing in Vacation to Mars in the auditorium.  Specific times and logistics of the performance will be sent out from the teachers to parents.   I wish all of the students the best of luck.
  • Welby Spirit Day - On Friday, your child can show their Welby Way spirit for Sports Day!  Students are able to wear hats, shirts, and sweatshirts related to their favorite sport or team to school on Friday.  I can't wait to see all the spirit coming through the gate.
  • 2024 - 25 Budget Needs Assessment - It is that time of year again as we begin to plan for the following school year.  Please take a moment to prioritize the budget needs for Welby Way resources and positions for the following school year using the link below.   Your input is greatly appreciated.

School Experience Survey – Families please take a moment to provide your feedback and complete the annual School Experience Survey.  We are aiming for 100% PARENT completion this school year.  Once you complete the survey please have your child submit the printed completion page to the office to receive a special BeDAZZLE.  This BeDazzle will be used in a special drawing to win a prize following the March deadline.  Thank you for time and input as this information is used for our compliance reports.   The survey can be found at https://www.lausd.org/TakeTheSES

I hope you all have a wonderful remainder of the weekend and evening.  I truly thank you for your partnership and the gift of your child.  This is all for now.

Your Welby Way Principal,

Mrs. DaCorsi
