Weekly News for November 27-December 1

Good evening Welby Way families,

I hope that you have all had a wonderful Thanksgiving week and a positive and memorable holiday where everyone was able to spend quality time with those who matter most.   It is hard to believe we are returning for the last three weeks of school for 2023 with a busy week ahead.

This Week:

  • Shelter in Place Drill:  On Monday following lunch we will have our annual Shelter in Place Drill as our staff and students prepare in there is a hazard in the community with unsafe air were students and staff are not able to be outside.  This drill is not a lock down.  During the drill the office will remain closed and students may not be able to be picked up to go home.  A message go out to all families regarding the status and the drill's completion.

  • Honor's Awards Assembly:  We will have our next Honor's Awards Assembly on Tuesday morning.   If your child is receiving an award, your child's teacher will be contacting you.

  • Make Up Picture Day - This Wednesday, November 29th will be Make Up and Retake Picture Day.  There is no need to prepay or submit any forms. Approximately 2-3 weeks after Picture Day, you should have received an email from Cornerstone Photography with a link to view and order your child's portrait online with a secure personal access code. You will be able to select from a wide variety of backgrounds, packages, instant downloads and portrait gifts. All orders are placed online and will be shipped directly to your home.  Your child will need to attend the make-up day if they missed Picture Day or if you are not satisfied with the first portrait and want to try again. If they “re-take” their photo, the original photo will be null and void for yearbook and other school service items.  Please see the attached flier for more information.

  • Book Fair Poster Contest:   Your child has the opportunity to participate in our annual Book Fair Poster Contest with the theme "We Love to Read!" using a 22 x 28' poster that will be displayed throughout the school and is due on Wednesday, Nov. 29th.  There will be prizes for winners!!  More information provided on the attached flier.  I can't wait to see all the amazing posters spread throughout the school in preparation for our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair.

  • Book Fair Details:  Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way starting Monday, Dec. 4th!!  Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. • Student Council Spirit Wear:  Your child can show their Welby Way spirit by participating in Spirit Day on Friday by wearing their favorite "western wear."  I can't wait to see all the school spirit and creative ideas.

Future Dates:

  • Winter Sing:  On Wednesday, Dec. 13th 1st grade, 3rd grade charter, and 5th grade will be performing in the Winter Sing at 8:30 am and 1:15 pm in the auditorium for families.  Don't forget to mark your calendar.

  • Winter Break:  There will be no school for the winter break Dec. 18th - Jan. 5th with the last day of school being Friday, Dec. 15th with regular dismissal.  We return from break on Monday, Jan. 8th.

I thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to do what is best for our Welby students.  Have a wonderful evening and remainder of the weekend.  This is all for now.
