This Week:
Parent Conferences: This week you will be meeting with your child's teacher to discuss your child's academic and social emotional progress for the first reporting period. Please be sure to take this time to discuss with your child their strengths and challenges and create a plan for their continued success. If your child is in need of additional support please be sure to visit https://www.lausd.org/tutoring to see the various options that are available to provide free tutoring and academic support for your child.
Coffee with the Principal: Please join me on Thursday morning at 8:30 am for our next school safety parent meeting as we discuss Substance Abuse Awareness. There will be coffee and goodies for all as we discuss how to best keep our children safe.
Charter and Magnet eChoices Application: This is the last week for the echoices application for charter and magnet applications. The on time application process closes on Friday, Nov. 17th. You will go goto.lausd.net to apply. If your child attends Welby Way as a charter student, you don't live in our area, and have an incoming sibling, don't forget to apply for the Welby Way lottery for the 2024 - 2025 school year during this on time application window. Also, if you are applying to the Welby Way magnet or a magnet for middle school you will also apply through eChoices website at goto.lausd.net.
iAttend Attendance Focus: The district and I are focusing on excellent student attendance since students need to be in school to learn. At this point if your child has more than 5 or 6 absences they are considered "chronically absent." The good news is Welby's chronic attendance rate has dropped from 13% to 11% as of this point in the school year compared to last year. This week I will be reviewing student attendance rates, calling families, and visiting homes again. Thank you for working as a family to ensure your child is in line at the time of the bell and in school each day unless they are vomiting or have a fever.
Reminders:
No School - Monday - Friday, Nov. 20th - 24th for the Thanksgiving break. School will resume on Monday, November 27th.
Winter Sing: 1st grade, Charter 3rd grade, and 5th grade parents, mark your calendar for our upcoming "Winter Sing" on Wednesday, Dec. 13th in the auditorium at 8:30 am and 1:15 pm. It is going to be a fabulous show as the students help us ring in the holiday season.
