News for the Week of September 5-8

I want to thank all of our families who came out for Back to School Night this week to meet your child's teacher and learn about their academic expectations for the school year.   It was wonderful to see you all.

This Week:

Monday - no school for Labor Day

Tuesday - There will be a LAPD safety presentation for all grades in the auditorium on Tuesday.  The LAPD traffic division will be coming to Welby Way on Tuesday morning to meet and present to our students the importance of traffic safety.

Thursday - Please join me for Coffee with the Principal at 8:30 am in the library on Thursday as I present the importance of students safety in regards to Grooming Awareness.   I will be discussing the how to educate your child about adult misconduct and child grooming/safety awareness.   This training will be presented at all LAUSD schools and is not related to any specific event at Welby Way.

Friday - POWW will be hosting their first Movie Night on Friday with the Mario Bros Movie.  Gates will open at 6:00 pm with the movie beginning at 7:15 pm.  Tickets are $10 per person (presale) and $15 per person at the gate.   Bring your blanket and chair and preorder your pizza and tickets at Pay4SchoolStuff.com.    Kona Ice and concessions will also be available on site.   There is an attached flyer for more details or visit the POWW website.  I can't wait for an evening of fun together out on the grass.

COVID Updates - Since the start of the school year we have had a few positive COVID cases on campus.  Thank goodness all cases have been with minor symptoms.  Please remember if your child tests positive to email both Mrs. DaCorsi ([email protected]) and your child's teacher, upload the results on your child's Daily Pass, and your child must remain home for 5 days upon testing.  Positive cases are able to return on the 6th day as long as the student is free and symptom free.  Upon return if the student tests negative for 2 days in a row on day 6 and 7, they can be unmasked.  Without testing the student will need to mask days 6 - 10.

Future Dates:  In honor of Sept. 11th, we will have a school wide assembly at 8:15 am on Sept. 11th with patriotic songs and presentations.  Parents are welcome to participate and will enter and exit through the gates located on Calicott.   We will have our SSC/Charter Governance/Local School Leadership on Thursday, Sept. 14th at 3:00 pm.  Lastly, mark your calendar for Sept. 25th as there is no school for Yom Kippur.

I hope you all have a wonderful evening and remainder of the weekend.  I continue to thank you all for your partnership as we successfully navigate through the new school year.  Have a good evening and be well.   This is all for now.

Your Welby Way Principal,

Mrs. DaCorsi
