Good evening Welby Way families,
I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend as we head into another week of possibly cold and rainy weather. With this, all lost and found items have been placed in the front of the school just inside the gate. Please remind your child to check the lost and found daily and when you are dropping off or picking up your child please don't forget to check for any lost clothing, water bottles or lunch box items.
Kindness Week: This Week our supportive and kind POWW Booster will be recognizing the importance of Kindness of all. Approved parent volunteers will be assisting students all week during recess and lunch with the painting rocks with words of kindness to make a "Rock Kindness Garden." On Wednesday, all students will be attending "The Character Show" in the auditorium that is sponsored by the Annual Giving Fund donations. I hope students enjoy the message and remember the importance of treating others the way they want to be treated and the way that person wants to be treated.
This Week:
Monday: On Monday presale for Valentine's Day Grams will begin. All presale grams can be purchased through the Pay 4Schools site. On Monday, Feb 6th in person sales will begin in the front of the school. More details to come.
Also, on Monday our new after school program will begin with KYDS. The program lead should have reached out to you this week to introduce themselves and explain the program more if you completed an application. Students must be registered to participate in the program, attend 5 days a week unless they are absent, and stay until at least 4:30 or 5:00pm each day. Registration information can be found in the office and the program will be held in the auditorium and library. Parents will come to the front gate to pick up your child each day. Also, if your child is in the YS program, please remind them of the importance of walking straight to the lunch tables following the bell to check in with the YS coach and not linger by a gate or between the buildings for their safety. If they are working with their teacher, they must first check in with YS and then return to the classroom.
Wednesday: On Wednesday, Feb. 1st, the late charter lottery and magnet application window opens for the 2023 -2024 school year. Do know that all late applications will follow the lottery selection of all ontime applicants. You can go to goto.lausd.net to submit a late lottery application starting on Feb. 1st
Friday: On Friday at 10:00 am will be our annual Charter Lottery held via zoom. There will also an in person option too with the location on campus TBD. Please know that you do not need to attend to be accept to the lottery and all lottery results will be posted on the Welby Way website by Monday, Feb. 6th and in the office. Results will be randomly sorted and posted using the child's lottery application number. Student/family names will not be used or posted for confidentiality reasons. On March 13th, the district will notify families via email if your child has been selected or placed on the waitlist. Please do not call the Welby Way office for results. Thank you and good luck.
Attendance Reminder: As a reminder I thank you for collaborating with us and ensuring your student is coming to school each day and on time. Walking through the gate as the bell rings does not include being on time. Some absences are unavoidable due to illness. We understand that children will get sick and need to stay home occasionally. Your student should stay home from school if they have a fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or above or severe cough and/or congestion or are throwing up. Please send in absence note to the classroom teacher when your child returns. Attached please find information about safely sending your students to school for guidance. Thank you for your support with this.
Reminder: In observance of President's Day, there will be no school on Monday, Feb. 20th. School will resume on Tuesday with regular Tuesday 1:30 pm dismissal.
I hope you all have a wonderful remainder of the weekend. As always thank you for the gift of your child and partnership as we work together to do what is best for our Welby Way students. This is all for now.
Your Welby Way Principal,
Mrs. DaCorsi
