Introductions from Ms. DaCorsi, Principal
Posted 7/26/22

Good evening Welby Way families,

As the new principal of Welby Way, it is my pleasure to introduce myself as I am eager to starting the school year together.   It is truly a pleasure and honor to become the new principal of a school with so many wonderful teachers, staff, students, and families. As the former principal of Lockhurst Drive Charter Elementary School for 6 years and Assistant Principal for 4 years, I am fortunate to know many of you as former families of Lockhurst and look forward to being together again with your children.

To provide everyone with some of my professional background with LAUSD, my career spans over 26 years where I started as a teacher's assistant and grew professionally through my various roles as substitute teacher, 1st and 5th grade teacher, writing coach, literacy coach, Title I and Bridge Coordinator, assistant principal, and principal.   I have worked in a variety of diverse communities such as our own along with schools with special needs, GATE, and English Learners along with 2 magnet schools formerly. I look forward to continuing my learning about the structure, academics, and programs offered here at Welby as a high achieving/gift magnet and as a resident/affiliated charter school.

My experience has helped me to form a commitment to ongoing learning, academic excellence, and success for all learners.  I wholeheartedly believe that all children can learn at high levels when families and schools work together for the best interest of the child.  One of my most important aspects of my work here at Welby will be to work to build strong relationships with the staff, students, and families of our community and around campus as I have done previously to promote the safety and well-being of all students.

Once again, I look forward to meeting everyone in person soon.  Don't forget to mark your calendar for the Back to School event on Friday, August 12th from 1:00 – 4:00 pm where learn about ways to support Welby, the various after school enrichment programs, and meet your child’s teacher.

Lastly, I hope you all received your child's COVID antigen test for your child's safe return to school in August.   Every child will be required to complete an at-home antigen test no more than 48 hours prior to the 1st day of school on Monday, August 15th and upload their results to the Daily Pass.  New enrollment and kindergarten students can pick up a testing kit during the kindergarten assessment or Back to School event.  Thank you for your support and attention to this.

In closing, please enjoy the remainder of your summer, time with your family and friends and be well.   Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions in the meantime.  I look forward to seeing you soon.

Susie DaCorsi

Your Welby Way Principal
