March 27-31, 2023
Good evening Welby Way families,
I hope you are all having an enjoyable weekend. It was so wonderful to see all the smiling faces back in school on Friday as we prepare for our last week of school prior to spring break. There will be no school this Friday, March 31st in honor of Cesar Chavez Day followed by our one-week spring break with school returning on Monday, April 10th.
This week:
Tuesday - Mrs. Fischman and Mrs. McLoud's class will be going to Petty Ranch for a field trip assuming the weather holds up. The "Extinct is Forever" performance has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the auditorium. The auditorium doors will open at 6:15 pm for parents and families. Also, that evening will be the March POWW Meeting at 7:00 pm via zoom as they finalize the details for the upcoming Glow Dance Party at Hale Middle School on Saturday, April 22nd.
Wednesday - On Wednesday, El Camino's Choir will be coming to Welby Way to perform for our students in the auditorium. Also, many of our 4th-grade classes will be going to the Getty Museum for their field trip.
Thursday - On Thursday morning we will have our March Honor's Awards assembly. Teachers will be notifying the families of students receiving an award as to the specific time for their grade level. At 3:00 pm we will have our March SSC/Governance meeting via zoom as we review the submitted 2023 - 2024 budget. Zoom information is below:

POWW Glow Dance Party and Fundraiser: Mark your calendar for April 22nd from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Hale Middle School for an evening of fun, games, fundraising, food, and so much more. There will also be an amazing silent auction with travel, outings, and items to bid on. The flyer will be emailed out this week with more details. I truly hope to see you there.
Main Office Camera Surveillance System: As shared earlier in the week, Welby had our main office camera/buzz entrance system installed. There are still a few steps left to have the system start but once the project is complete, all parents, community members, and visitors will need to be buzzed into the office. Once it is completely installed please be patient as the office and I learn to use and implement the new system.
Welby Way Exterior Painting Project: During spring break the Welby Way exterior painting project will begin. The entire exterior of Welby Way classrooms, auditorium, and office will be painted. The painters will be working during the school day but will not be interacting with our students. I am so excited to see the transformation of Welby and have our school really shine.
I am sad to share that this weekend for the second time in the last two weeks, the Welby Way staff parking lot was graffitied along with the sidewalk just outside the parking lot. I know many of our families walk around the school for exercise during nonschool hours. Please if you happen to see anyone that is not staff on campus or anyone doing anything destructive to the campus, please call School Police immediately to report it at 213-625-6631. Thank you.
Lastly, I want to wish our Odyssey of the Mind teams the best of luck that are going to the State Competition on Saturday, April 1st in Moreno Valley. I know they will do amazing under the guidance of their team coaches, Mrs. Lundy, Ms. Awad, Mrs. Kearns, and their families. Go Welby Way!!!!
I hope you all have a wonderful remainder of the weekend and evening. Thank you again for your continued support and partnership. This is all for now.
Your Welby Way Principal,
Mrs. DaCorsi
