News for the Week of November 13-17
Posted 11/13/22

Good evening Welby Way families,

I hope you are having an enjoyable weekend as we prepare for our last week of school with minimum day dismissal and parent conferences prior to the one week Thanksgiving break.

This Week:

Dismissal:   This week's dismissal will be at 12:30 pm each day except our regular 1:30 pm Tuesday dismissal.  Please be sure to make arrangements to pick your child up on time as children are not able to wait in the office.  Thank you for your consideration with this.

Parent Conferences:  I hope everyone has their parent conference scheduled with your child's teacher.  This is a perfect time to learn about the successes of your child on recent DIBELS, Edulastic, and IAB assessments along any areas of need that your child may have.  I recommend creating a plan how to best support your child at home to address these needs as your teacher will provide various resources available to families such as free online homework.  Parents and guardians may check in at the front gate to walk to your child's clasroom for your conference.

Magnet and Affiliated Charter Application: This is the last week for eChoices for on time charter and magnet applications through Friday, Nov. 18th.   If your child's teacher feels that your child would benefit from enrolling in the Welby Way High Achievement/Gifted Magnet, now is the time to apply.  This also applies to all 5th grade families that would like to apply to a magnet for your child's middle school experience or attend Hale and it is not your home school.  Also, if your child attends Welby Way as a charter student and you have a younger sibling who you would like to attend in the fall, you must apply to the charter for Fall 2023 in order to receive sibling preference.  Lastly, be sure to be aware of the new window for upcoming TK enrollment.  Feel free to contact the office, Mrs. Kearns, or me if you have any questions.

In the 2023–2024 school year, the remaining district schools will offer a child who will have their fifth birthday between September 2, 2023 and September 1, 2024 will be admitted into a TK program maintained by the school district.

Annual School Experience Survey: It is time again to participate in the annual School Experience Survey and right now we only have a limited number of families who have participated.  Help your child earn a homework pass, extra play time or other various classroom incentives but emailing your teacher the survey verification once you have completed it.  This survey gives everyone a chance to provide feedback about Welby Way school in order to help make improvements.  This year, the survey will be administered October 24, 2022 through December 9, 2022.  Paper copies of the survey can be picked up in the main office but I am highly encouraging everyone to complete their survey online this year.  The survey can easily be found online at   Your input and time is greatly appreciated and provides valuable information for our charter accountability plan and what Welby is doing well or how we can improve.

November POWW Meeting:  This Tuesday at 8:05 am will be the November POWW Meeting in the parent center.   If you are interested in attending please check in at the main office to receive your visitor's pass.

COVID Updates:  This week your child will be bringing home an Home Antigen COVID test to be administered within 48 hours prior to returning to school on the Monday following the Thanksgiving break.  The test will be sent home with testing guidelines and how to upload your child's results.   Thank you for helping to ensure we all return to school healthy and safe.

Winter Break:  Don't forget to mark your calendar for our upcoming winter break from December 19th - January 6th with the last day of school being Dec. 16th.  Also, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade will be presenting our annual winter program in the auditorium at 8:30 am and 1:15 pm on Thursday, Dec. 15th.  More details to come.  All other grades will participate in a spring activity.

I hope you are all having a wonderful remainder of the evening and weekend.  I continue to thank you everyone for your partnership and support as we work together to have our students and school shine.  This is all for now.

Your Welby Way Principal,

Mrs. DaCorsi
