News from Mrs. DaCorsi for August 29-September 2
Posted 8/28/22

Good evening Welby families,

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend after as we head into our first of two 4 day school weeks.  As a reminder there is no school this Friday, Sept. 2nd in observance of Admission’s Day and Monday, Sept. 5th for Labor Day.

COVID Updates:  Thank you everyone for taking the time to COVID test your child prior to the start of this week to ensure everyone returns to school negative and safe.  Though the majority of students returned negative, we had 5 positive cases this week at school.   A few cases never entered campus after testing positive over the weekend and the remainder were on campus and all had no or minor symptoms.  If your child tests positive, please be sure to label the test with your child’s first and last name, date of birth, school, and date of the test and upload it to your child’s Daily Pass.  Also, please be sure to email me ( and your child’s teacher regarding the positive results so I can assist you with the safe return to school timeline.  If your child is a close contact you would receive an email from me as notification.  With this I am highly recommending that students wear their mask while indoors for the next few weeks until our numbers begin to drop. If your child exhibits any flu like symptoms, please keep your child home and test them prior to returning to school to ensure they are negative.

Back to School Night:  I am looking forward to seeing everyone for Back to School Night on Tuesday evening.   TK – 2nd grade will be from 5:30 – 6:15 pm and 3rd – 5th grade will be from 6:15 - 7:05 pm.  This evening is for parents only.  Please be sure to arrange to not have your child attend.  This is a wonderful time to meet your child’s teacher once again and learn about your child’s instructional program and expectations.   I look forward to seeing you on the evening on Tuesday.

Earthquake Kits:   As we begin this school year, we again review our school emergency plans to make sure our procedures and supplies are current and appropriate for our student body. The Welby Way Elementary School staff takes its role in emergency preparedness very seriously, and we are certain that if an earthquake or other emergency takes place while school is in session, our staff will be well prepared to take measures necessary to insure the safety of all our students.  With this we are beginning to collect emergency kits as of this week.  Please review to attached letter for kits guidelines and recommendations.   Thank you!

Lockdown Drill – This Thursday in the afternoon, Welby will be participating in our annual Lockdown Drill.   Please take a moment to talk with your child regarding this only being a drill and the more often we practice, the safer and more prepared we are if there was ever an emergency.  The teachers will be reviewing the procedures with their classes prior to the actual drill.  Also, please know that the campus will be on lockdown and the office will be locked during the drill.  Students will not be able to be picked up and the office will not be answering the phones during this time.  I will message everyone once the drill is complete.

POWW - I want to continue to send a huge thank you to the many families who have supported the Annual Giving Campaign thus far.  Please remember our dedicated POWW leaders work hard each school year to raise money to make our various enrichment programs possible such for our students each week.   Pease review the attached flyer to learn more about how you can participate in the AGC and best support Welby Way.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

Tang and Java Day – POWW will also be hosting a restaurant day at Tang and Java on the south/east corner of Ventura an Fallbrook from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, Aug. 30th.  Please see the attached flyer for more details and future dates.

No School – Reminder that there will be no school on Friday, Sept. 2nd and Monday, Sept. 5th for Labor day Weekend along with Sept. 26th which will be an unassigned day.

I want to thank you for your kind and welcoming words, and support these last few weeks as I look forward to continue to work together this school year.  Have a wonderful rest of the weekend, evening, and be well.   This is all for now.

Your Welby Way Principal,

Mrs. DaCorsi
